Transportation all week!!

I wasn't looking forward to the transportation theme week, but now just a couple days into it and we are all having a blast with it. What does transportation mean? Not an easy word for the little ones. Now when I ask I get answers like "airplane, train, school bus, bike, car, helicopter, race car" etc. Our first project was making a race car out of toilet paper tube.

A little bleach/water spray to make a cool design and some paper towels to have a clean table again. Water colors from Discount School Supply, only a $1 when on sale.

Lets look at the map, see where we are going to travel to, how we are gonna get there, and also look at where we came from Wichita, Kansas.

It took me about 10 to 20 minutes to make roads, garages, houses and parking lots with masking tape.

All we have out right now is cars, trucks, and buses. Let them drive the roads for awhile then we will bring out our new ramps that were homemade from a friend. Then add the blocks from the block center. Ohhh what a fun day we had. To sit back and just watch them as they would build their structures, park in their little driveways that are attached to their house made from the masking tape, or just drive around the road to end up back at their house. They just didn't want anyone else parking at their house.

Barron worked on his house for quite some time, trying to make it just perfect. First he used the ramps as the roof and then he decided he wanted to drive down a slope off the house.

Okay so I'm thinking Emma knows the camera, she is posing for me...lol

Beatrice had the greatest idea and she beat everyone to it. Filled up her masking tape house with the furniture

Coloring tools that people use to work on cars and working on our cutting skills.

Allen was the first done with his snack so he snuck over here and started building him a block house with blocks from everyone else's houses...lol...not much time left anyway the day was almost over. It was time to rip up all the masking tape, the kids wanted to leave it, but I was scared for the carpet. Tommorrow we will be having a car wash instead.

Dorian entertaining the kids or maybe entertaining himself! They are all attacking him and Allen is trying to save him by pulling his shoe laces thinking he would be rescued from the kids.

Now everyone is getting tickled to death.....laughs and laughs and laughs. I know one day my kids will have kids and I'm praying they will be good parents. Being raised around a house full of kids will help teach my children how to take care of their own. I'm so thankful and blessed for what I do and the life I have!!

After pulling all the masking tape up we just made a big ball and played hot potato with it to finish our day.

I bought these eggs last year on clearance for when we do the transportation week.

I didn't forget to throw the old candy away either.

Some of the kids remembered which color comes first at a traffic light. While the others learned. Red means stop, yellow....slow down, and green....go. After they worked on cutting circles out we started a car wash.

Working at the car wash...water, soap, sponges, cars, and a big towel to dry them off. Alright everyone take their socks off and roll up your sleeves. So glad we did this because in the first 5 minutes someone pulled the plug and water went everywhere so fast, thank god the big towel was close.

RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT, does anyone know how to play the game? "NO" okay lets go over which each color means when we are driving. Pretend you are in a car and when I say green that means go. Freeeze when I say red, and be ready to stop when I say yellow.

Taking our daily trip up the stairs to make lunch. Kids look forward to this for a little Calliou time. This is our train and we are all chugging away with our arms.

Water color painting

The easiest way to do this is every couple minutes rotate the cups in a circle, everyone eventually gets every color to paint on their paper.

And the spills a couple times around, but nothing impossible to wipe up with a little bleach and water.

Reading books before circle time.

We took a whole week to learn the head shoulders knees and toes song. The kids absolutely love this song. Everyone has it memorized now. It is a work out, even Miss Karri gets wore out. So glad we only do the song one time.

This is Emma and we are glad to have her here in our preschool. She is fascinated with scissors.
She has been here for a week now and has learned the concept of holding them and how they work.

Penguins

I always like to do our penguin week in Jan when its really cold here, but this nice weather we have been having has been quite a change.

Our icebergs where the penguins live.

During our circle time this week we discussed all the facts about penguins, how they live, how they stay warm, what they eat, how they take care of their eggs, and how a nest is built. We watched different learning activities on the computer about the penguins and even get some good laughs by watching some funny tubes of penguins on youtube.

Just wanted to share the other part of my life beside my career. These two that keep me going in life, keep me motivated, keep me busy, and they never let me slow down. I started my childcare at home when my son was 1, now he is 18. There was a quite some time when I was not updating my blog due to a very long and hard divorce. Some days I didn't know how to even function. But the most important thing is I'm still working.with kids and still enjoying everyday I have to spend with my own 2 children while there still here. Just recently my son ended his last year of being a captain for high school soccer and ended up with a full soccer scholarship. I am so proud it brought tears to my eyes. Now my daughter has started her first year of high school and will be working toward achieving the same kind of goal.

I I brought the PVC piping out after Allen asked for it. So I watched him walk over to the marble bucket and he was putting the pieces together. Along came Kayden and started to help him. They started rolling the marbles down the the pipe and into the basket or onto the carpet.

His feet were dangling over the end of the table as he was trying to line all his matches up then he started counting all his pairs he had.

SNOW & SNOWMAN week

Shaving cream used as snow. The most fun and messy thing you can do for a dollar. We made roads and drove the cars through the snow. The shaving cream cleaned the table and the room smelt so good the rest of the day.

Publish Post

Thank You Pete for getting a wall mount sink for the messy hands. Thank You Dayna for finding a faucet at a garage sale for just a few dollars. We all love our new sink and its just in the right spot.

Our sand and water table filled with toilet paper that I saved from our Halloween party. We had used this for the mummy wrap game. The kids pondered on it for awhile wondering how we were gonna turn the toilet paper into snow.

I told the kids if they just lick the marshmellow then it would stick to the paper. Well it worked but some would still fall off. Jay couldn't figure out why his marshmellows wouldn't stay to the paper and not to his finger. Well he had smashed them so flat that they were gooey and stuck to his finger.

I supervised them all while they added white ivory soap snow flakes with the shredder to help our experiment turn into snow. I remember when I first was living on my own and use to buy this soap. Oh gosh the smell is terrible and reminds me of back then, but the kids seemed to not mind.

There goes the water one cup at a time. Can you only imagine the gloop it turned into.

So mushy ohhhh but so fun. We squeezed the toilet paper till all the water ran out between our fingers, we threw it around in the table, made snowballs, snow cones, or just piles cause we loved how it felt. The kids played in here for a good hour.

Then all the socks had to go in the dryer in order for us to play outside in the beautiful January weather.

Christmas Party

Settings

We celebrated our last day before our Christmas break with a PJ Christmas Party and a gift exchange. I let all the kids pull names for the exchange. This worked out great. All the kids enjoyed their party, Christmas treats, art kits, and Polar Express.

Target website caught my eye when I saw this dollhouse. The price was right, free shipping, and all the furniture came along with it. It has a work out set, living room, bedroom, laundry room, bathroom, patio set, kitchen, etc. This was our Christmas present.

So I guess Allen came from the snow in the sand and water table to the lego table...Check him out, he is as happy as can be with flour all over him.

So I thought I would entertain the kids while they were eating their snack. I became Santa while sitting in a chair by the kids. They laughed so hard!! Then later they would mimic me!!

He is already looking guilty!! Eventually the frosting will be in his mouth, but he is watching me.

This project was fun, but some needed a little help getting the frosting on there thick for the candy to stay.

I think Jay was sneaking a few in his mouth....who wouldn't, m&ms, gum drops, and marshmallows.

O'yah here we go with the frosting, yum!!

So I suckered into giving everyone a tray with a little bit of candy on it. Then they thought that was so cool because they didn't have to sit at the table.

As the presents are coming in from the kids for their gift exchange, the kids surround the tree with excitement and anxiously await till Friday for our Christmas party. Jay thinks his present is the coolest because it is the only one wrapped in robot paper.

The kids are making ornament wreaths with their picture to wrap up and give to their parent/s for a present.

My favorite part...reindeer food. Everyone has their own bag, a spoon, and a bowl with oatmeal. I knew it would be messy but it took good hand eye coordination to scoop the oatmeal into a baggie. Plus you should have seen the floor when we were done.

We added some new games to our class after shopping at Walmart on black Friday.

Don't ask what he was doing. Jay is such a character. The kids all watched him as he was asking them" where am I going" with giggles. He kept running into things and we all just laughed right along with him. I guess he was quite entertained. Look at Allen looking at him laughing.

Yeah....we got a new sink for our class. Just have to paint the patched up wall where we had to put the bracket. I'm so excited! No longer going across the carpet with painted, shaving cream, gluey, etc. hands. The faucet needs to be installed and this will be done this coming weekend.

The ship is sailing, everyone get under the ping pong table and get on before it leaves.

GINGERBREAD TIME

We started the week out with our Gingerbread Theme! During circle time we learned all about him. It is such a neat story and the kids really enjoyed seeing him getting chased by so many in the story. "Catch me if you can, 'Im the gingerbread man"

We couldn't make a gingerbread man and not have his house for him to live in.

Evie couldn't stop eating the marshmellows, had to sneak and get a picture of this.

Filled the sand table up with a couple bags of flour and this is our snow. I don't keep this center open all day due to the mess, but when the lid is off everyone in the room is white. There is a layer of white in the classroom and outside. Its all worth the fun. A little bit of sweeping and a wet towel to wipe off stuff and then we start all over again the next day with the snow. I think this is their favorite thing to do right now.

As you can see they are covered in flour but within 30 minutes they are back to normal

The snow wouldn't be to fun if we couldn't cover our arms and faces with it. :)

Christmas Season at Little Foxes Childcare

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas,,,at the Little Foxes Childcare House!!

I had help this year putting the lights out on the house, and I LOVE it! Next year I would like to do all the peaks on my roof.

This year we decided instead of doing the numbers on the calendar we would do the Christmas chain. So each day we take turns pulling a strand off the chain that is hanging on our circle time wall. Of course this was all new to the kids and kind of frustrating till they got the hang of it so we made it extra long just to practice. I took the extra and just made 2 chains.

Our Thanksgiving Feast!!!

All the kids helped with preparing the foods, opening cans, pouring, stirring, but when it came to the Turkey (really a chicken but they didn't know the difference) no one wanted to touch it. They all were saying ewwww!! So they were asking all the different body parts, and you never know what is going to be said when they are kids. So Jay asked where is his butt? They asked where is the head? This was quite an experience. Thought the process would take longer but it went pretty smooth.

Yes he was sampling drinking out of a measuring cup with nothing in it.

To see Allen's laugh when he watched the green beans fall out of the can, was priceless!!

Our Turkey ready to come out of the oven. Our menu consists of Turkey, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, rolls and pumpkin pie. Yum, everything was sooo good.

These are the days I like to sit back and just capture pics all day. They also remind me of why I do what I do and how much I do enjoy the kids and spending time with them. Knowing that they enjoy coming here, love to be with their friends, enjoying fun activiites, and they are also learning new things, makes it all worth it.

Evie is forever cooking in the kitchen. This is her favorite center!! I was observing the kids in different centers as they were getting along so well.

Liquid water colors from discount school supply. U can use these for painting and they also work so good with dying noodles. Sometimes they run them on special for $1 a bottle.

Of course Allen saw Maggie had a little bit of paint on her chin so he decided to paint his face with the brush and then it sorda dominoed around the table.

Dinosaurs

What is a volcano?

I used red powder paint and shaving cream to give the lava a thick hardening look.

What is a archaeologist? They study dinosaurs and they use these tools to look for fossils. What are fossils?

Dinosaur week....we discussed that the word dinosaur means "terrible lizard" we talked about where they live, what they eat, the differences and how they are the same, and why they are all gone.

sponge painting a dinosaur then they will cut it out and add eyes. But eventually they were sponge painting their hands.

Breken was being a big dinosaur in his buzz dress up costume.

I just ordered these dinosaur stamps out of discount school supply.

Yazmin is always found so quietly at the writing center and she is always practicing her cutting skills. She now knows how to hold scissors the correct way and cut on lines.

So Evie is pushing her dinosaur stamp so hard, look at her face. She is making ugh noises and concentrating. So funny!!

They all saw me sneaking a picture in I just quietly sat the camera on the table.

UPS delivered new stuff for us.

I think I was just as excited as the kids when the UPS guy rang the doorbell. I couldn't open the box fast enough so I just let them bang on it for a quick minute. I realized the box was to high on the table so I put it on the floor, can u imagine crazy kids, trying to open the box, and snapping pics all at the same time. I wonder how I do this....PATIENCE!!!

Okay here we go I cut the box open. It is really quiet right now.....

and now its loud and crazy....they are seeing toys, bubble wrap...OMGosh.....dinosaurs.....

No the control is gone, but who cares there is lots of laughter, excitement, and lots of "Miss Karris"

So some of the kids are still enjoying seeing what else is in the smaller boxes that were in the big box. They found little houses for cars to go in for our block center. These are really neat.

okay we discovered the bubble wrap and the snaps it makes. The room is toning down a little bit. Maggie and Breken are so focused.

Allen found a box just his size. I really don't know how he fit, but he even shut the lid and was just cracking up laughing at himself. Wow the box is free....haha....

He is still keeping busy with this box that is now ripped up from him falling over.

Another side ways pic that needs to be fixed. Jay opened the sky scraper blocks and was immediately building a skyscraper.

Red Yellow and Orange

This is their tow truck, they love doing this and take the other kids on rides. We just tie the bikes together with a jump rope. But its not easy if one of the girls wants to drive, the boys seem to have stronger legs to pull another bike and passenger.

Beatrice was struggling so Miss Karri gave her pushes, you know Evie didn't wanna stop she was having a good time riding in the back.

Allen's sister Sydney was here in the summer. After school had started I heard him calling her name, when I looked over he was having a conversation with her on the phone. Would have been cute if we all heard what he was saying.

Michaels had a couple hard puzzles on clearance that I picked up. Jay challenges himself almost everyday with this transportation one. It was hard, but he is getting much better at it.

Circle time,,,where it gets really loud on ABC,s or counting, or even days of the week song.

Evie wanted to teach circle time after I finished. So here she is singing her ABC's but pointing at the days of the week. I loved listening to her sing. Just shows they enjoy their circle time.

Allen was in a hugging mood, but only with Breken. But Breken enjoyed it, they walked around the room inseparable.

They girls were going around the room with the binoculars looking at different things. They were all dressed up.

Cutting apples with knives (plastic)

When I told all the kids I was going to give them knives today to cut apples they all looked at me crazy. So I asked them if they have used one before. Of course some of them said they use them. lol Yes it was not an easy project cutting apples with plastic knifes, but after I cut them into pieces then they were able to cut smaller pieces.

We talked about Johnny Appleseed and how he planted apple seeds across the US. We also read a story about him. All week the kids kept saying his name and asking questions about him. Here are our Johnny Appleseed hats. U can see they wore them most of the day. Evie kept calling herself Johnny.

Pick a color of an apple, paint 2 plates, stuff them with paper, staple them together, and add a stem.

New School Year 2011

We started out working on our names, wrote in white crayon then watercolored.

Made our own green playdough, green is the color the kids picked out.

Necklace making, only because I had extra help. The kids went around the table with little cups and picked out the colored beads and colored noodles that they wanted.

And guess what??? Forgot to get a picture of the finished product. They all turned out so cute and so colorful, some made a pattern, while others just kinda beaded it together.

Jayden must of had a long night, this was in the morning. He just fell asleep on this little couch while the room was quite loud with all the kids. It didn't phase him at all.

Summer water days......So I have had so many computer issues and have had many pics on my camera forever. Now that I'm on a new computer I need to fix all the sideways pics. UGH...but my goal is to update as many pics as I can today. The small price I had to pay was huge water bills but its worth all the fun for the kids. We constantly filled the water table and buckets up from the hose.

Vegetables

Our flower theme is slowly turning into vegetables and gardening. I set this tray of veggies out we discussed their differences and the kids all know how they grow. Here shortly the kids will be planting a garden of their own.

Each kid was to paint the veggie on paper with the matching color and shape.

Mothers Day

I decided we are going make something for our mommies that they can eat. Bundt cupcakes. I really wanted the kids to do the whole mixing and baking process. But oh my this took 2 hours from start to finish. So moms I hope you ate your cupcakes.

While we waiting for the first batch in the over I made a few of these deserts. I let the kids dig in to the bowl with the extras. Look at Allens face and Sydney loved the dip with the strawberries. We sure did make many messes.

And the egg cracked but none of it went in the bowl. Every kid wants to crack eggs. Glad we practiced this on Easter week.

Allen and his sneaky fingers...everytime I looked over he was putting choc in his mouth. lol He did not want to wait.

And all the sprinkles come out so fast...but its okay...spread them around. Im sure the more sprinkles for mom the more special the cupcake is.

FLOWERS

I have a big box of these packing peanuts. They work great for crafts if you just stick them in a litte water

The sand table is filled with top soil, flowers, pots, shovels, gloves etc. Next week I will add seeds.

We learned about a flower and how it grows. First you have dirt, then plant a seed. The seed grows roots the roots grow a stem and the stem grows a flower.

What better way to end the week than to paint with mud. The kids shoveled dirt onto their wax paper, added water from the water can and used paintbrushes to squish it all around. At first they were hesitant but wow what a mess we made with this project.

Can you only imagine what all there fingers looked like and they couldn't figure out why it wouldn't come off.

Just happened to look at the window and this is what I saw 2 ducks taking a swim in the pond. Then they left.

We crushed Trix cereal in a bag and glued them onto an egg patten.

DENTAL WEEK

We started the week out by making tooth necklaces. Noodles + liquid watercolor =white noodles. Then Teagan added glitter.

Any kind of smile we can find in out magazines was cut out. There are moms, dads, and kids with big smiles that we glued. Then we painted white paint with Qtips around the pics. Some choose to paint the teeth and pretend like they were brushing them.

Thank You Teagans mom for bringing dental magazines, stickers, and workbooks for the kids to take home.

Jay says "Miss Karri I can not color in the lines, can we do this together?" so yes we colored together.

Jayden was excited he found his way through the maze.

We set a egg in soda pop for most of the week. This was our science experiment to show the kids how when they drink pop or eat unhealthy things what will happen to their teeth if they dont brush.

Can't really tell in this picture but our egg turned really brown.

So now would our egg (teeth) come out white if we brushed it with toothpaste?

O yuck the toothpaste is all over my hands.

The kids also got floss, toothpaste, toothbush, and one more book. Thank You Angela!!

Hand cordination....and making patterns. Seems so simple to line up dominoes excatly perfect so they all fall in line together. Teagan and I worked on this making snake and circle patterns. It could be frustrating to line them up. Of course we wouldn't want the fallin dominoes to stop in the middle.

We decided to stack up different sizes of dominoes. So Teagan is asking which one is the smallest and which is the tallest.

What fun this was on a cold day. We made a big obstacle course in the basement. Consisted of jumpin over things, going around objects, and crawling under.

So this is our daredevil of the bunch, after he jumped over and fell all he could do was laugh!! You see they are all watching him. They know what is getting ready to happen. Jay loves the challenge.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS

We get two of these book every month for the kids to take home. This book had a page about mixing colors.

Red and White = pink

Yellow and Red = orange

Red and Blue = purple
